Chris Zinon is a qualified climbing instructor who runs rock climbing clinics on the South Coast of NSW in summer, and in winter provides guiding and alpine skills education in the NSW Snowy Mountains for Alpine Access. Time with Chris in the mountains will improve your skillset and prepare you for bigger adventures. Whether you have your dreams set on faraway peaks or just want to safely access steeper terrain in Australia, this ski mountaineering intro will start you on your journey!

You will learn skills to stay safe in technical terrain in the backcountry such as:

what equipment to bring and how to use it
trip planning, route-finding
knots & hitches for mountaineering
crampon, ice axe technique & self-arrest
belay techniques & rope systems
snow anchors

PREREQUISITES: Moderate fitness, advanced riding ability, some backcountry experience


Equipment You Need to Bring (we can assist with hire):

Ice Axe & Boot Crampons
Avalanche beacon, shovel, probe, Backpack
Sunglasses, sunhat, sunscreen
Helmet, beanie, gloves, goggles
Water, snacks & lunch
Waterproof outerwear, Warm layers (not cotton)
Skiers: Skis with touring bindings & skins, poles, ski crampons if you have them
Snowboarders: Snowboard & snowshoes OR splitboard setup, 3 piece poles, splitboard crampons

CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellation fee 2% of course fee.
A refund, minus the cancellation fee, will be provided if:
* you cancel at least one month before the course date
* you are unable to attend the tour due to illness or injury (medical certificate required)
Severe weather: Course will go ahead in all weather conditions – we can choose protected, lower elevation zones.
A full refund will be offered if we are unable to proceed with the course due to circumstances beyond our control or we do not have a minimum number of participants.
